My new desktop

I made the wallscreens and the icons are Elements V2 and I got the info next to them using AveDesk 1.2
I've have to come up with something else once I have my laptop wednesday...well probably not for a while, because I'm going to put it aside while my girlfriend is here from the 25th-9th.
I can't wait til she's here.

Finders Keepers
I found a really cool blog, the author is Che Chou, an editor at 1UP.com (the portal for Electronic Gaming Magazine, Official Playstation Magazine, and all other video game magazines by the same publisher).
Okay, I admit it. I only think it's cool for the pictures from his japan trip. Well it is cool otherwise too.

This goes against everything I believe
If this happens, I'm going to break the law, get arrested for it and take it all the way til it's ruled un-constitutional and it really is...it's sick.

Download Windows Longhorn
Well, since my last entry, I've managed to a place to download both Windows XP Pro 64 Bit Edition, and Windows Codname "Longhorn" Build 5048 HEC DVD.
What luck eh? I didn't even have to use Kazaa, eMule, eDonkey, Bittorret, or any other P2P file sharing program.
I'm not about to list the places right here on this blog, but if you want to know where I downloaded them, comment with your e-mail address.

Windows Longhorn?
I've been hearing so much about Windows Longhorn that I want i now! I've been browsing the internet, looking for a place to download some tester's leak, but to no avail. I tried downloading with a torrent but for some reason I can't get that to work. There was nothing to be found on K-Lite either. So I've resorted to legal and conventional methods of aquiring a copy.
I signed up at http://beta.microsoft.com and http://connect.microsoft.com.
Hey! Yeah, I know, but its the only chance right now, unlikely as it may be. If you know a better way, let me know.

UTK Orientation
Yesterday I returned from orientation at the University of Tennessee, and it was really fun.
We listened to a bunch of boring presentations on the first day, and I had to take some placement exams in math and foriegn language.
In math I placed in the second lowest level out of 8. Yeah, it pays to complete all your math in your sophmore year of high school and go two years without.
In foriegn language they gave us the oppertunity to earn credit if we placed into the 200 level (earn 101 and 102 credit automatically) or the 300 level (201 and 202 credit). Well I didn't get either of those because I tested into the 150. I don't earn any credit, but I save one semmester because I take 150 that wraps 101 and 102 into a one semmester review. Why am I explaing? It's moot anyway since I'm not even taking Spanish, I'm taking Japanese.
So the first day was pretty lame except for the skits by the orientation leaders. This one put on a curly-blonde wig and glasses and was dead on for napoleon dynamite.
At the end of the day we had a party called the "Big Orange Bash" but it was more like the "Big Orange Bust" because it was pretty lame.
After the party though, a bunch of the guys on the floor of the residence hall we were staying in hung out in the TV room and talked about music for 2 and a half hours, and that was really cool, because we didn't even know each other.
The next day was better because we got to make our schedules. Here's mine:

Akijikan's First Birthday

Well when I was in the hospital I missed the first birthday of akijikan. So here is a proper entry to celebrate what should of been 5-9-05 but wasn't because 4 days ealier I was entering the hospital.
It's hard to believe I've been at this for a year, but I guess I have. Some times have been sparse of entries, but I'm still here and akijikan is going to stay.
The comments are a great thing, because I enjoy the opinion and support and appreciation I get from you. No matter how much I screw up, my audience is still here, reading along.
Akijikan has endured an interesting year. Among many other things this blog has seen 4 different homes.

I'm glad to say that I believe that this current host is going to be the home of akijikan for a while.
Akijikan has also been a survivor of a very self-destructive disease: addiction. I've been self-medicating since I've had this blog and I have done so many horrible things to my life with drugs.
I've compiled a list of notable posts from the past year:

Hi. I'm [[REDACTED]], and I'm an Addict
I'm sure everyone has been wondering where in the hell I've been forever. To answer all of you, I've been at Parkridge Valley Hospital. I've been through detoxification and residential treatment in their Impaired Professionals Program.
Why was I at Valley? Because I am an addict. Valley's website defines addiction as "the continued use of or interest in something in spite of negative consequences." An addict is anyone who suffers from addiction. Addiction is most commonly related to drugs or alcohol, but it can be to many other things including food, relationships, work or sex.
I am a drug addict, and while my drug of choice (DOC) was benzos (short for benzodiazipines), any mood-altering substance is addicting to me.
While many people believe that addicts are capable of just "choosing" to stop, or that it's a habit that can be quit, I, however, believe in the disease concept.
My recovery from this disease is based upon intense involvement in my Support Group. My support group includes Narcotics/Alcoholics Anonymous, My Psychiatrist, My Psychologist, My Girlfriend, My addiction-educated friends and family, and many other things.
It is said in the rooms of NA and AA that drug/alcohol use is only a symptom of our disease. The disease of addiction is not a drug problem, but a life problem. As addicts, we are unable to deal with life on life's terms, therefore we turn to mood-altering substances to escape the feelings, challenges, etc. we face.
I am proud to say that as of today I have 64 days clean and sober.
In Narcotics Anonymous key tags are given out to mark the sober time. I have collected 3 so far.
Give it up: Give youself a break "Just for Today". (Start Counting)
Orange you glad you're in NA? (30 Days Clean)
Mow the grass, don't smoke it. (60 Days Clean)
